To say that everyone has problems would be an understatement. The thermometer of social tensions is ready to explode at any moment, spraying bloody quicksilver of ethnic conflicts, civil unrest, and riots. Our society, having reached unprecedented heights of scientific and technical progress, nevertheless, is facing one of the gravest crises of the last centuries - the crisis of the meaning. People have lost the meanng of life. Boredom and bewilderment devour modern "enlightened" gentlemen. Millions of people interact with each other through their computer monitors experiencing a profound sense of loneliness. According to the World Health Organization research, by 2020 depression will become the main reason for people’s incapacity for work. Human values become "unfashionable", and we can see that such seemingly unshakable concepts as kindness, compassion, honesty, and modesty are starting to quietly but surely disappear from our lifes.
Reconciling all the contradictions
According to the Vedas, a personality is an eternal part of God. It is absolutely valuable and unique, and these qualities can not be confined by gender, nation, or religion. The Vedas teach us to see beyond the coverings of bodies, languages, and cultures, distinguishing the common spiritual nature of all human beings. Atma-tattva, or the Vedic science of personality, is a reliable remedy for the virus of racial and religious intolerance.
Reducing crime
When a child stumbles and falls, loving hands of his mother lift him up. But who will lift up a stumbled soul? Who will help her to get back on the right track? This role by default is given to the criminal law and the correctional system. The statistics is quite disappointing: only 20% of the criminals return to normal life after their sentence is over. The remaining 80% become become repeat offenders, who consider prisons as “universities” where they can hone their criminal skill. And for those few who are “corrected” the fear of future punishment, but not true repentance, is the main reason for not committing a crime again. Spiritual Vedic methods are able to uproot the very causes of crime: greed, lust, and selfishness. That way a person is not only freed from a criminal behavior, but also from the very predisposition towards it.
A healthier nation
An elegant cigarette, a pair of trendy "anti-stress" pills, a glass of brandy - all offer a quick relaxation and a sweet slumber. However, free will could be the price. "Innocuous" pleasures lead to a lifelong bondage, destruction of one’s personality and health. Replacing the lowest values with spiritual ones, the Vedas bestow a human being with the sense of profound happiness, inner integrity, and reliable protection from stress. The Vedic way of life is able to break the chains of drug-addiction and direct one’s energy of desire from a destructive course
AIDS prevention
The only thing which is worse then death is its anticipation. Exactly in such a state live hundreds of millions of our contemporaries. Even in developed countries AIDS inevitably becomes number 1 killer. But while scientists are struggling to unravel the mystery of the terrible disease, the treacherous virus continues to win in the battle with science. The question is, can any wonder-vaccine actually stop the plague of the 21st century? Professor Alexandra M. Levine, M.D., the leading United States of America AIDS expert says: “If we could cure AIDS tomorrow, but did not change behaviors, I guarantee that there will be another major sexually transmitted disease epidemic, and another, and another, and another.” By educating a person to become chaste and pure, the Vedas effectively vaccinate him or her against AIDS and other simpthoms of perverse ideology.
Solving ecological problems
Poisonous smog, dead water, and acid rains are but the echoes of an ecological catastrophe in our hearts. It is the fever of consumption, created and skillfully maintained by the industries, turns forests and grasslands into deserts, rivers - into waste water, and air - into carcinogen. The forewarning of Mahatma Gandhi: "Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed", remains forgotten. By teaching us to differentiate between our needs and our greed, the Vedas help us to live our lives feeling responsible at the face of all living beings for each and every step we take, now or in the future.
